Women, rest and wellbeing

A few months ago I saw this post from Womenspiration. We so often deny ourselves of rest, however it’s so important. This is a special call to women, many of whom have put their health on the back burner for years and years. They prioritise their family, friends, chores, work and a myriad of other things above their own wellbeing. Does this sound like you? Well, let this be a gentle reminder to prioritise yourself and your health (mind, body and soul). Rest doesn’t just mean that typical image of sitting down with your feet up and a cup or tea. Rest comes in many shapes and sizes, and different things will appeal to different people. Unsure where to start? I hope this list and the image above give you a little inspiration.

Welcome ‘me’ time

In your diary, just like you'd schedule any other important appointment, set aside some time just for you. Whether it be a few minutes or a few hours. Use this time to do whatever makes you feel good - read a book, walk outside, lay in the sun, do the Sunday crossword, watch your favourite tv show on Netflix or funny dog videos on Instagram...whatever it is that makes your heart sing!

Take joy in mindfulness

Mindfulness is magical in my opinion. It allows any situation, be it boring or stressful, to feel more enjoyable. Here’s a lovely mindfulness exercise to try.

In any situation you're in, to bring yourself into the present and add some mindfulness magic...

1. Look around and name 5 things that you can see

2. Name 5 things you can feel (e.g. you feet in your shoes, your hair touching your ears)

3. Name 5 things you can hear

4. Name 1 thing you can smell

5. Name 1 thing you can taste

Make that appointment

You know that appointment that you keep meaning to make but just ‘don’t have time for’?. A pap smear, mammogram, chiro appointment, a check in with me. Whatever it is, make that appointment right now.

Love yourself

Love yourself, because you are amazing! Repeat after me - "I am divine, I am worthy, I am loved".
